Marienplatz and the New Town Hall in Munich in 1938. Incidentally, in that year, in that very city, the fate of Europe and the world was sealed.

This photo taken in August 1952 still shows the 16th-century city hall of Nuremberg completely in ruins. Most of the city was destroyed by Allied area bombing between 1943 and 1945.
